Palynology, Paleoenvironment and Stratigraphy Relationship of Tungan Buzu Hill with Adjacent Valley Gwandu Formation, Sokoto Basin, Northwestern Nigeria

Palynological study of Tungu Buzum Hill was investigated with a view towards determining the age outcrop, compare its miospore content adjacent Buzu Valley carbonaceous shale, their stratigraphic relationship and paleoenvironment deposition litho-sequence. Field involved litho-description logging achieved by noting rock type, mineralogical composition, bed thickness, texture, sorting, roundness, structure, fossil diagenetic effect. slide preparation decarbonisation, digestion, sieving, maceral separation using zinc bromide, mounting on petrographic analysis. The litho-sequence is composed sequentially upward claystone, siltstone, indurated silty mudstone ferruginized ironstone characterized loadcast, fracture, lithification bioturbation. Palynologically, litho-section exhibits few marker forms such as Belskipollis elegans, Peregrinipollis nigericus Retibrevitricolporites obodoensis depictive early Miocene age. deduced based occurrence peridinacean Andalusiella sp., Senegalinium Lejeuncysta diversiforma Paleocystodinium golzowense indicative marginal marine, while deeper marine gonyaulacacean phytoplanktons present are Micrhystridium Canningia capillata Dinogymnium sp. There similarities in palynomorph assemblages this Tunga section terms similarity to Gwandu Formation though varied valley litho-section, marked continental settings. suggests that stratigraphically overlying Valley, separated fault. represents footwall situated within hanging wall normal fault structure.
